Turtle Table

A repurposed 18th century printers table.

Now a wine and charcuterie sideboard, this table was once the station at which a printer arranged block types. The original leather wheels date it to the early-mid 1700s.

The original timber is thick white oak and the casters and top were solid cast iron. I made a walnut butcher block top, updated the lower shelf to match, replaced the wheels with walnut, and gave the entire piece a thorough once-over.

It is easy to imagine from the appearance of the feet why the name Turtle came to be.

While the one shown is an original, I have been approached to make new versions, patterned similarly. The size and height make a nice serving table or entry piece.
